Ben Jackson – University of Georgia

Ben Jackson is a professor and Timber Harvesting Extension Specialist in the School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia. He received a PhD in forestry from Texas A&M University.  Currently, he is the leader of the Wood Energy Community of Practice.

Ben specializes in woody biomass and conventional forest products harvesting and transportations issues, forest road construction, and alternative forest products.   Over the years, he has developed many forestry-related educational products and programs for forest landowners, loggers, forestry professional and the general public.  Now, much of his programming effort is directed at distance learning through the internet using online learning modules, webinars, YouTube videos, and other avenues.

In 2006, Ben was president of the Association of Natural Resource Professionals  (ANREP) and served on the Joint Council of Extension Professionals (JCEP) board from 2005 through 2007.  He was one of the organizers of the 1990s national program named LEAP or Logger Education to Advance Professionalism.  Finally, he was one of the authors for the USDA Forest Service Forest Encyclopedia Network (FEN) web site entitled Encyclopedia of Southern Bioenergy.
